Club Bâtard, Private Members Club, Hong Kong

Spanning three floors in the historic Pedder Building, the three-story wine cellar for Club Bâtard is the largest of its kind in Asia. A pièce de résistance of a cellar design conceived in collaboration with Sensis World and built to exceptional quality to house the most coveted of wine collections.

Aside from storing wine, the space stitches all three floors together, allowing guests to wander freely to select their wines and to finally enjoy it at their tables. We want it to be an experience in itself for one to travel through the cellar, each floor with a distinct narrative to celebrate the unique regions and flavours of the grape.

Located on the first floor, Le Clos pays homage to the ‘clos’, an ode to the cloisters and the origin of wine making as a monastic ritual.. A double-barrelled ceiling reminiscent of religious naves sets a reverent tone, while rustic stone columns and Beaux-Arts flourishes evoke old-world grandeur. Playful custom details like scrolling metalwork, Miró-inspired mosaic tiles, and bespoke chandeliers bring levity to the space.

On the second floor, Bâtard reinterprets the classical French brasserie with a warm, contemporary edge. Stood in the centre of the cellar is a jewellery vitrine of wines – a tribute to French haute couture and their famed display cases.

Rich materials like burgundy leather, hammered copper, and faceted mirrors, create a sense of intimacy and understated luxury. The dining room flows into a sunlit terrace wrapped in custom wallpaper, where subtle Bâtard motifs playfully hide in plain sight. A mix of elegance and ease, Bâtard is designed for both casual gatherings and more private moments behind sculptural portals in its secluded dining rooms.

Tucked away like a secret library of spirits, OBE is the club’s whisky bar located on the third floor. Named after the “Old Bottle Effect”, a term referring to the complex character that evolves in aged whiskies. Designed as an intimate and enveloping refuge, OBE is anchored by a curved, custom-built floor-to-ceiling cabinet clad in lustrous anodised black metal, housing an extensive collection with a focus on rare Japanese labels. The ambience is low-lit and contemplative, with soft wall sconces, table lamps and plush black leather banquettes creating a cocoon of calm sophistication where one can sip and savour undisturbed.

Also located on the uppermost floor, Hop Sze is a contemporary Chinese restaurant inspired by the original namesake in Sai Wan Ho. The design breathes lightness and vitality into the space, with lantern-like light fixtures, abstracted Chinese joinery, and bold yet elegant contrasts in marble, wood and textile. Pops of colour and playfully reinterpreted signage elements bring a youthful spirit to the interiors, while private dining rooms and expansive views offer a refined, elevated setting for both intimate and celebratory gatherings.
